I've been meaning to add this, just for the sake of those interested, the article's been on my desk about a week now. For the fourth year in a row, the Cadillac Escalade EXT luxury pickup topped the list of most stolen vehicle in America. Rounding out the top five were the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Dodge Ram Quad Cab, Ford F-250 and F-350 and Chrysler Sebring. the report from the Highway Loss Data Institute says that not only does the Esky get stolen the most frequently, they're also very expensive when they do get recovered, with claims averaging $40,000+. Vehicles at the opposite end of the spectrum, with the lowest number of theft claims, include the Ford Taurus, Pontiac Vibe 4WD, Buick LeSabre and Park Avenue, and Toyota Sienna 4wd. If they could just make a 4WD Ford Taurus, it'd probably be almost theft-proof. Another agency, the National Insurance Crime Bureau, says the 1995 Honda Civic is still at the top of the car thief's shopping list, followed by the 1989 Toyota Camry, 1991 Honda Accord, 1994 Dodge Caravan, and 1994 Chevrolet C/K1500 trucks. CCC Information Services, a third agency tracking car thefts, had 5 of their top ten theft targets as Acura Integras of vintages between 1995-1999; the years for this car that the "Fast and Furious" crowd seems to be fond of. Hmmm. The HLDI numbers are the ones I myself would ponder if I were buying a new car, the others don't take into account whether or not a vehicle was insured, just that it got stolen. God, I'm old enough now that I actually worry about these things? Or is it just me?
