I had my second interview for the corporate ESL job, which consisted mainly of giving the boss, who happens to be from South America, lessons attuned to HER needs. I did my best, pulled out some ESL gems from my own collection, which she absolutely loved, and basically responded as well as I could to her needs. I think I did a da*n fine job, and I think she agreed, as I'm still starting orientation on Thursday. I've been advised by at least a few people not to say too much about what goes on, and in the interest of my continued employment aound corporate clients, I probably won't. The big news today was that I-696 was such a flippin' MESS by the time I got on at 5:00 p.m., I detoured down Orchard Lake Road, and past my favorite bakery, the one where Martha and I got our wedding cake from; and stopped; and bought. Boy, that little Oreo cake (and I mean little, this thing is about 3" in diameter,) was deeeeeee-lish. I bought carrot cake, bumpy cake (chocolate covered with a white-cream speed bump on top,) and a Boston Cream. Everyone seemed to enjoy theirs. We also bought a gas grill. That's right, whine all you like about "It just doesn't TASTE the same barbequeing with gas!" And you're probably right; but more to the point, the bigger positive is that you can do things like control the flame, so you don't burn the bejeezus out of everything, there's no ash mess, and when you're finished, you turn it off, and in relatively short order, your kids are in no danger of burning themselves. That's a sufficient number of pluses for me. On the minus side, it came in a box that weighed about 350 lbs, and was something akin to assembling a guided missile, although I only skinned myself once. It is also doomed to live outdoors all its days; there will be no attempting to get this monster inside the house, just under its fitted little tarp. I can still deal with that. I'm getting lazy in my old age, sue me. As of now, I'm just REALLY tired. But in a good way.
