Week two of my latest class, and my average is still running over 90%, so all's well. Which says nothing, of course, for whether or not the work is done, I know bloody well it isn't. The party's just getting started, but things are indeed coming more and more into focus. Who am I here for as a teacher, most of all? I feel good to have inspired people to do many things up to now. To want to do things. In short, I guess, to have made the difference that I have made. I've been told about it all being worth it when you see in a student's face that they "get it." Yeah, I've seen that now. Admittedly, it can be particularly wierd being back in high schools, given that I would never be the one to say I was ever the coolest guy in class when I was in high school; far from it. A little cosmic, a little comic. But I'm able to hold my head up none the less.
But, like I said, we'll reserve the popping of the champagne corks for my anticipated graduation date of June 2009. Meantime, I will serve, as I suppose I always do, and love doing it. Which is probably still a little crazy, but hey, crazy is as crazy does........
I also noted the article in the Wall Street Journal about the Lexus LS600h L, which, at a list price of over $104,000, makes it the most expensive hybrid vehicle you can buy; not to mention the largest. As the Journal writer so aptly put it, "it's for the captain of industry who wants to show all the "little people" he sort of cares about the planet." I question the real relevance of hybrid technology in a vehicle that also parallel parks itself, and offers power rear-seat foot rests. Put a humidor in the rear seat center arm rest, and show the world what you're really made of. Hmm. Speaking of crazy.......
