"You can't plan your life, because if you do, it will be too narrow."
Nissan/Renault Chairman (Sir) Carlos Ghosn.
Any man who can say something like that, and also be the star of his own comic book, is conspicuously not average. Actually, he was talking about Nissan's new 480-hp GT-R, which apart from being incredibly fast and all-wheel-drive also happens to meet Japan's super-stringent emissions standards, making it one of the "greenest" supercars available, but then again, Enzo Ferrari was talking about rear view mirrors when he said "What's behind you is not important." There are times when "hero" isn't word enough.
I almost forgot a really good story; Martha was talking on the phone to her sister today, and told me to pick up the other phone. I did, and was greeted by my nephew, the Kindergartener, doing his rendition of Sammy Hagar's "Can't Drive 55." I don't know whether to be proud or scared. Julian's dad sports the tattoo that's in absentia on me, and I no longer have the earring that was always noticeably absent from him, (at least as long as I've known him,) so maybe we're about even. Ah, well. I guess I will have seen it coming when Julian (or his younger sister Avery, for that matter,) want Uncle Pete to help them do brakes on the '09 Vette they just got.
Speaking of heroes, the one closer to home (my dad,) is doing better, apparently enjoying his new surroundings, but still wants to be home. Cheryl laid it down to him, and adamantly told him she refuses to even attempt to pick him up off the floor again. That being the case, his motivation to try and walk and be strong now impresses the hell out of me. But then again, by doing so, I know he still has his reasons; there's more to him than I've seen lately, but I don't want him falling off the wagon, either. And as long as he's living there, my education may be more of a crapshoot, but that, too, will happen, one way or another. Sometimes "determined" isn't word enough.
