Forgive us, Father, for we have sinned. We must have somehow or other, anyway. The Dow is flip-flopping around between 65-to-6600 and change, I know Michigan's economy, anyway, is completely in the tank, and even a man seen as a political do-no-wrong like Barack Obama is having a hard time staying on top of things. To say that he bit off more than he could chew is an understatement. Of course, I think we all recognize that it wasn't really his fault in any event; the Republicans are widely viewed as the biggest bunch of g---d--ned doofuses in creation, at any point in history. "Dubyah" has already been categorized as #36 on the list of quality of Presidents America has ever had. And given that there's only 44 on the list total, I think the only ones beneath him were perhaps Millard Fillmore, Ulysses S. Grant, Herbert Hoover and a handful of others. Certainly noone in recent memory, with the possible exception of Jimmy Carter, and even he just tanked when it came to keeping the U.S. economy together; any man who can get the PLO and anyone else to the table is still in possession of some mad negotiation skills. And if, as I have said before, you don't think the current state of affairs demarcates a wholesale change in the way of doing business in America, well, you're wrong. Many more will die via either suicide, or lack of health insurance, but I think the bottom line still remains. When this whole ugly episode is nothing more than a page in an American History book someday, we will be a saner, sounder nation, the likes of which we have not been in a very long time. I still believe that greed has become passe, particularly if the social pundits are correct. If you've heard about what's viewed as "hot" in the upcoming TV season, (not like I watch much,) the trend is already starting. What has been true, continues to be so; only so much is sustainable in America, for so many bodies, and then we get into the situations like we're in right now. Can we figure this time that we've really learned our lesson? Only time will tell, I guess, but I hope so.
