Oh, yeah, Happy Bunny; this little abomination, and statement on the sad state of us all, should you be so unawares, is a marketing line, with these cute, simple, childlike little bunny pictures, with taglines like "I just realized I don't care," "It's all about me, so deal with it," and other desultory tripe. Is this what we're teaching our kids to be like?! My oldest likes the Happy Bunny stuff, and I have freely expressed my disgust at it all, which essentially has probably gone disregarded as mere dad-ness. But are we at the point in society where this kind of crap has to SPREAD?! And then to go and put this cute little face on to attract kids?! Which it obviously does?!
Trust me, the minute I have a commentary to make with regard to you, I will NOT be puttin a happy little face on it, or me! I will bark, yell, and generally raise hell and make the proper point. I don't like to, but some folks just don't get the message any other way. And if you're wondering how I can talk about wanting peace in my life and having to bark and raise hell at people, it essentially comes down to this, and this alone; you get what you pay for. If you're intelligent, hard-working and make at least some effort to be honorable, I will openly take the proper view of that. If not, expect that whatever deficiency in your character is evident will be so much cannon fodder. I don't buy that crap about "no good deed goes unpunished," and if you think that way, the flaw is in your attitude generally. The truth is, we all can, and should, rise up, and make the best effort possible at whatever we do. The world would be a much better place if "me-think" weren't the great American pastime. And if, in some regard this all sounds very un-American, well, so be it. Incredible to think of what "individuals" we all claim to be, only to herd like Lemmings into the form of SUV-driving, gun-toting loudmouths, predisposed to nothing so much as sex and money. Sorry if that sounds harsh, and if this doesn't describe you, you should be proud of yourself. But let's face it; as a culture, Americans judge from the outside in. A Pamela Anderson or Chevy Corvette means more to us than a Sophia Loren or Chrysler Airflow (if you've never heard of this car, I'm sure you can find info about it on the web.)
I choose to develop myself from the inside out, with all the passion I can muster. Why all this ranting? Well, is it any wonder that I can see Americans as being an insubstantial lot and not wonder why our industries and educations are being trampled by the rest of the free world? We're getting eaten as a society becuase we have chosen NOT to put the effort into ourselves. We whine, cry and lament the fading power of labor unions and see absolutely nothing wrong with attempting to litigate our way onto Easy Street. Yeah, there's a great American legacy! And if you're then wondering how I can say this, knowing I'll be teaching English in Korea, well, think of it this way; I saw the need to make change in my life, but the response, ouside of the position I have just taken, was a big, fat goose-egg. No interest in what I THOUGHT, yea, KNEW I was capable of, whatsoever. I choose to chalk it all up to American hyper-conservativism, and the fact that we as a culture will accept nothing, with the possible exception of the O.J. Simpson verdict, without proof, including what a person says they're capable of. That, of course, is because we all HAVE been LIED TO so frequently we all, as The Who so aptly raved, won't get fooled again. Just......wake up if you're not already, okay?!
