Nothing major to report, except what I guess we'll call a "Mi-guk Moment." (Mi-guk is the Korean word for American, BTW,) I have previously mentioned, Chun Q. Korean's massively consumerist tendencies, and many of the shopkeepers, particularly when their store opens, or, as happens frequently, RE-opens under a new name, will have American music blasting away. The Koreans don't REALLY know what this music is all about, or what it means to the scattered Americans in the crowd, but, well, of course, WE do! Anyway, here I am, walking home the other night, and one of the stores is playing Naughty By Nature's "Hip Hop Hooray," one of the greatest hand-waving, sing-along, dunno-what-the-the-words-are-but-who-the-hell-cares jams ever written, I think. Well, in a reflex action that could only be described as Pavlovian in nature, Miguk-sa-ram (me,) first starts singing along, and then, upon reaching the corner, we get to the part in the song that goes, "heeeeeeyyyyy-hoooooooo-heeeeeeeeyyyyy-hooooooo...." Anyone who's heard this song knows where I'm at here. Okay, I tried to be cool, and not get the arms waving over the head, but none the less, they were movin' from side-to-side, and I'm singin along, only to look about and notice every Korean in proximity is looking at me as though I just landed from outer space. One mother reels in her daughter, who had ventured in my direction, one would suppose for a closer look. As a 6'2" American in a crowd like this, and one who really doesn't like to feel on display in the first place, you'd think I could have avoided a moment like this on my own, but......well, some things just can't be helped. I gotta start remembering to pack my headphones more often; this doesn't happen with my jazz CDs......
