Spectacular thoughts are getting harder to come by, particularly since I'm, well, really pretty peaceful lately. I understand that things at home are about as stable as they've been in a while, dare I say a LONG while. Still a few wrinkles to iron out, but ya know what? we can all hang with that. Even my vision of Korea is stabilizing somewhat, although it ain't like I'd want to build a summer home here. I was watching a TV show last night, on the Korean cable network Arirang, which as I understand broadcasts world-wide, where they talk about occupations. They didn't specifically call this woman a personal trainer, although that's essentially what she was. Anyway, she blamed a lot of the onset of obesity in Korea to the Westernization of diet, and similar things. She didn't come off as accusatory, but I know I was sitting there thinking to myself, "what, and you didn't run into diet related issues when you were eating every form of plant and animal life you could lay your hands on?!" What's wrong with this picture? Admittedly, America is the king of the plus-size societies, but isn't that part of the image we put forth to the world? It seems a little hard to convince people of the prosperity of your society when your populace is half-starved. (stick-waif supermodel wannabes will be excused from this line of thinking. Then it's just the cost of the dress that counts, right? right.) The main things that really still bother me about America are the overt ease of firearm ownership, and the bumper crop of God-awful drivers. Everything else, for the most part could be handled with a little moderation, if we as a cuture could actually stomach a little moderation. Even Elvis was better in my opinion, in the early years over the Vegas period, but that's just me. Enough ranting for now.
