Well, I hate to have to say it, but lately I've been reading the latest from George Carlin, called "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?" and frankly, it is no better than marginal. More to the point, dare I say it, Carlin himself has lost his edge. In the early days, when the records came out on vinyl, back in the 70s, he was unbelievably funny. Now, for the most part, he is just angry. And not even angry in a particularly funny way. Making fun of modern society is not what makes you relevant, or funny. It happens to all of us, heart attacks and near-death experiences will do that to a person, I know first-hand. But you have to recognize it. Hopefully, I know when I 'm not always relevant, or funny, and if I'm not, I pray someone will have it in them to say, "Hey! We know all that! You've said it! Will ya SHUT UP for a while?!" I have wondered, too, if striving to be intelligent, relevant and logical in a universe that really doesn't seem to be is just so much screaming into space. And I'm sorry, sweetheart, I know you bought me the book out of the goodness of your heart, which, by the way, is immense, and I don't want you taking it as a slight that I didn't like it all that much. And if I ever absolutely cease to be relevant, or logical, just buy me a set of golf clubs and leave me be. We'll both be happier, I think......
