I made the comment before that, regarding Catholicism, this is NOT your father's Catholic church; here's proof, via The Michigan Catholic newspaper. "after several years of study," the paper quotes, "the Vatican's International Theological Commission said there are good reasons to hope that babies who die without being baptized go to heaven." In a document published April 20th, the commission said that the traditional concept of limbo-as a place where unbaptized infants spend eternity, but without communion with God-seemed to reflect "an unduly restricitive view of salvation."
The Church continues to teach that, because of original sin, baptism is the ordinary way of salvation for all people. But the greater theological awareness today that God is merciful, and "wants all human beings to be saved," gives us the idea that the Grace has priority over sin. Ergo, the exclusion of innocent babies from Heaven does not seem to reflect Christ's special love for "the little ones." I could say a lot of things, here, namely that the quote that Grace has priority over sin does seem a bit rock-paper-scissors, if you're looking at it from that angle, but mostly.....wow. What's next, Cuervo at communion?! Nah, I suppose not, after all, 2000 years of teaching don't all just come tumbling down like the walls of Jericho, unless something really apocalyptic in a BAD sense occurred. And I the think the priest scandals that have all come to light, from dark times past, are quite enough. Anyway, stay tuned, I'm sure the changes are far from over. Seemingly, as with all things, (and people,) things are never done changing, no matter what a teenager attempts to tell you.
