Another call today from Washtenaw--this is always positive in the summer, especially. And while I myself was working in a classroom where all the students, for whatever reason were confined to wheelchairs, (I'm kinda glad to be the sub in such instances, because it frees me from such responsibilities as giving injections and suctioning trach tubes,) Patrick, who I've worked with in other facilities, had a great day; at least what I saw of it. There's kind of a "community" session, where the students gather, and one teacher sings and plays guitar, and when he broke into "Achy Breaky Heart," Patrick, who is mostly blind and has been struggling with walking by himself for a while, got up up and DANCED!! As someone who's helped Patrick with his walking, and things like climbing stairs, it was a small moment of triumph, and just plain old good to see. He even managed o get himself a partner, when one of the other teachers danced with him. Way to go, bud.
